A message poped up when I opened Microsoft Office, "Norton Antivirus 2005 does not support the repair feature. Please uninstall and reinstall." So, I tried to remove it using add/remove program, but my PC automatically shut down and restart. Why???

I cannot run NAV as well where the message appeared, "This application has failed because cll30.dll was not found, reinstalling the application may fix the problem. After I closed that message boox, another one poped up, " Unable to start the Integrator. Please reboot and try again. If this fails, please contact technical support."

First of all remove the item NAV from your startup list, ( press the button "Start" -- "Run" - type "msconfig" -- go to "startup" tab -- uncheck everything related to Nav)

Then delete the folder containing NAV (where you have installed the NAV program).

Then using a registry cleaning software, remove all the registries related to NAV. Then your PC will be completely free of NAV (as if you never installed it).

I have done the same thing...no problem...I got it extended for one more year from the date of reinstallation! You have to uninstall it completely. After uninstalling, search for Norton, if you still find some, right click and delete them. Empty your recycle bin also before reinstalling.

As you might well be aware, Norton Personal Firewall is an abysmal piece of software.....it hogs up my RAM, takes ages to load up or display an alert when it has blocked something, and always has conflicts with my LAN. I was wondering if I could delete the Firewall alone and try to make the AntiVirus suite work with ZoneAlarm? Would this work? The only reason I want to keep the AntiVirus is that I still have more than half a year on my subscription and the free AV programs out there arent rated as highly as Norton's (the opposite seems true of NPF compared to ZoneAlarm). Can I do this and run Norton AntiVirus 2005 with ZoneAlarm or is it not advisable?

The best way is to try to unistal and do a manual install (not automatic) and dont click to install Nortron Firewall, another way is to see if you can uninstall it sepratley from the ADD/REMOVE programs panel. If you cant you can always Disable it from Running, Tho it May conflict with Systemworks and may end up being glitchy.

To disable, Go to Start%26gt;RUN and type in MSCONFIG then here, click Selective Startup, Then go to startup tab, and disable anything thas says norton Firewall, becareful, since you are still running System works and may accdencitly disable a startup program from that.

I would say get rid of Norton and use AVG and Spybot. Norton puts itself all over your computer and slows it down. I use the free version of AVG and Spybot and my computer has never been better. My son is a computer tech and he says they have a special removal tool for Norton, it is so invasive.

More than one activate Anti-Virus result into conflicts. They treat each other as virus and your computer will slow down to nearly die. Spybot is nice, and you should take the anti-virus you are most comfortable with.

CA antivirus is virtually impossible to remove, personally i have spent upwards of 5 hours trying to remove it. The only way i found of doing it was to download a program called avenger, which runs below Windows Xp etc. The only problem with this option is that you need technical knowledge to script the program and what files to remove. If you take the computer to a repair store, they should be able to remove it for you. Good luck

You can use ccleaner to remove it. Or you can go into start %26gt; programs %26gt; ca etrust folder. Often there is a file called unwise or uninstall which you can click on to uninstall the program.

Then as another suggested do a search for all files %26 delete them. You can also use ccleaner to remove the registry entries.
If you just open control panel, you wont see them you have to click and open uninstall programs in the control panel and then you choose the ones you want to uninstall.Thats where they are.
If your insistent on putting Norton bloatware on and wish to get rid of CA try start search and search all files and folders of all drives on the computer and delete those entries . Once those are gone then you can add the bloated software

With Norton Antivirus, you also have an option to remove the program by inserting the CD again, but it may or may not solve your problem. You should be able to uninstall through the Add/Remove Programs. Once you do get it cleaned from your system however, you will have at least gained a miniature frisbee type toy (your CD). So I suppose Norton isnt a TOTAL loss. Just a quite expensive play thing. Maybe you could use it as a coaster for a glass of soda or tea as well. Best of luck to you.

No. Reformatting is not a solution. First, try System Restore in the Start %26gt; All Programs %26gt; Accessories %26gt; System Tools %26gt; System Restore and Restore it to the point where you haven't installed Symantec Anti-Virus. After you restore, download and install either AVG Anti-Virus or Avast! Anti-Virus.

Or run Windows in Safe Mode and try to uninstall it.

***Take note to backup all files before doing a System Restore including programs installed after you installed Symantec

You are getting the alerts because it is picking up viruses. You are going to have to get it cleaned so the alerts will stop. It is doing its job so telling it not to notify you in some way is not recommended.

i don't understand why so many people want norton just use AVG free, spybot-search and destory and get a decent firewall, i have used this set-up years and have had no probs. Norton uses a lot of memory and just slows the pc down. Sorry i can not be of more help but norton is just useless really.

1. Use WPA encryption (WPA-PSK) it's less crackable then WEP.

2. Make a passphrase that is upper %26 lower case and has some numbers thrown in there as well, again harder to crack.

To be honest with you dude, if you have Service Pack 2 loaded onto you PC and you get updates put on automatically. All you need is AVG 7 Free edition and it won't cost you anything for security. Also Avast Home edition is free and is fantastic at preventing problems.

I am not familiar with the anti-virus you are using but here two different ways that may help you achieve what you want:

1. If you have an icon representing the Firewall in your system tray (I think you must have one), right-click it, and look for an option that allows you to shut down the anti-virus temporarily. I do not know how exactly this option may be worded for your anti-virus but it should be something close (in meaning anyway) to "stop anti-virus protection."

2. Open the Task Manager (by clicking Ctrl+Alt+Del usually), find the running process(es) representing the anti-virus, and terminate it (click on "End Task").

To get your anti-virus running again, in case 1, right-click the same tray icon and select "restart anti-virus protection" or the equivalent option for your anti-virus. In case 2, to get the anti-virus running again, it would be simpler to restart your computer if you do not know how to restart the anti-virus process(es) manually.

In either case, you should not be connected to the internet when your anti-virus is not running.

No offense but Norton sucks. My friend used to have it and there was still things wrong with it after he had run the virus scan. When he bought another sofware there was 52 viruses that Norton did even pick up. I think you should get rid of both.

I had a trial version of Noton antivirus 2006.I then got Norton antivirus 2005(1 year subscription).(I then removed the old Norton antivirus)When I open the main page of the new antivirus, the renewal date comes as 3/3/2007. I am trying to install an antivirus after getting BT Total Broadband. I had Macafee and successfully unistalled this. But, I have Norton Antivirus 2005 on my programs which I have tried to to remove. I have also tried to remove them with the "misconfig" information from Symantec. I have also tried the Symantec Autofix tool and they were all useless. Its up to you guys now - what is wrong how can I remove this. It seems I also had Norman AV somewhere along the line and this also cannot be removed - I need help...

Try to delete it manually...find the location and the file and delete it.

But I have no patience with that, so I simply format and reinstall Windows...then I'm sure there are no viruses!

Does anyone know where the "save file" is for Norton antivirus PC scan? Whenever Norton kicks off an auatomatic full PC scan on Friday, it saves the completed scan somewhere on my C drive and takes up all my space. I would like to #1) Delete that huge save file from my C drive (wherever it is) and #2) Somehow configure Norton to save the scan file to somewhere else on my PC (like my D drive where I have a lot more room).

Ok so every time i open VeohTV or uTorrent an Internet Worm Protection warning shows up.

It tells me a remote computer or something is trying to access something!!!??

its says if i opened a video game or file sharing program to press permit.

So i do but a few seconds later the same message keeps popping up over and over again telling me to permit or block!!!

I even went to the settings and under VeohTV and uTorrent put permit all but they still keep coming!!!

What should i do so those messages stop popping up when i Open those two programs??

Get rid of Norton. It is the single worst security progam there is, and they make you pay for it!! Get AVG fre edition for your anti-virus, Ad-Aware and Spybot for your anti-spyware, which are free, and use the XP firewall, which is more than good enough for what you're likely doing with your computer. Norton hasn't had a decent release in years, so yes definitely get rid of Norton. I don't know much about Zone Alarm and I haven't heard anything good or bad about it either.

Personally, I'll stick with Trend Micro, PC-Cillin has been around for years and it always seems to work.
Norton ranks pretty low as far as antivirus software. I use Bit Defender antivirus myself, rated #1 by PCWorld magazine.

1. Open your Norton Anti virus and search for the option "Register", Run the Keygen and this will show you an user name and a serial number, then you should copy and paste the information in the required fields. I am waiting until they stop updating my AT%26T CA Anti-virus/Anti-spyware protection. Need to uninstall all of your anti virus, 2005, updates, and firewall if you have one from your previous anti virus 2005, and your 2006 then reboot and reinstall 2006 do all the updates and run your scan. this should fix it.

hello, i am a computer geek, and i have no life. chossing an antivirus can be hard, but really AVG is the best just google AVG go from there, its a lot cheaper (free version and cheaper than norton version)

you see, AVG updates twice a day whereas norton does not. therefore if there is a new virus created norton wont know about it but AVG will...and AVG DOES NOT HAVE TO BE RENEWED EVERY YEAR...once you buy it you buy it

right now i have the pro account paying for it worth every god damn penny of my income that i pay for it

Yes, Norton needs to be renewed every year. I find that it's cheaper to buy a copy of the new version (i.e. Norton AntiVirus 2006) off of Ebay than pay a subscription renewal.
yes, but trust me i just updated mine, it is totally worth it!!!!!!!! just go to the website and follow the instructions
Norton software is bloatware. It has a lot of software that you don't need AND it takes up a LOT of system resources. Even better than renewing, uninstall all of that stuff, and install a free antivirus like AVG:

It's a decent antivirus program and it doesn't take up much of your system's resources when you run it. =)
