The Anti-Virus choice.?

Well. Its that time again. Time for me to be bombarded with startup messages telling me how there is 19 days left until Norton AntiVirus needs renewing.

Now, i have an old Norton (2005) but it has the latest updates and such so thats fine. I was just about to go out and get Norton AntiVirus 2007, but reading the pinned topic on ways to protect your computer it almost feels like ill be wasting my money.

You see, i really want to keep Norton, i love the way i can open up the Live Log Viewer and see what been accessing the internet and i get to see all its loggings ect.

So the question is, is Avast/AVG TRUELLY better than a commercial Norton AntiVirus 2007 edition?

No.1. Norton doesnt slow down my computer so leave that point out (2.8ghz - 512mb - Intel Extreme 2 Graphics).

No.2. Im happy with an old version i had so wont the new one be better.

No.3. Its only $30 at my local shop.

Please Discuss.

AVG is OK, but Avast! is CERTAINLY better than Norton anti-virus. I would gladly swap Norton with Avast! if I were you.

P.S. Security doesn't mean anti-virus alone, so if you are on the look out for an all-in-one security suite (with anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware, anti-spam and all), then you can get the Norton Internet Security Suite 2007 from your local shop. But only for the anti-virus part, Avast! rocks!! In fact, you can actually build up your own security suite for free and it will protect you better than Norton. Along with Avast!, get Spyware Terminator and Comodo Personal Firewall and you have a better security than most others!!
