Only 2 days since using my refurb laptop - 1G RAM - Media Center 2005- it became slow in booting up.

It's been 2 days since I started using my Aspire laptop. with 1G RAM, Windows XP Media Center Edition. The only programs I installed were Norton Antivirus and Windows Party.

Now, it takes at least 6 minutes before I see all the desktop icons.

When I do the ctrl-alt-delete, the CPU shows that there is no activity. When I take a look at the "processes", i see a long list of programs that show SYSTEM or my name as the user.

What do I do to get the laptop back to its fast startup????

Several people I've spoken with have said that Norton Antivirus (2005 and newer) has a tendency to REALLY slow down a computer system. Especially once it does a "liveupdate" to get the latest virus definitions added to it's base.

Everyone that has deleted it from their system has experienced a much quicker system. One friend gutted his entire system and found it very responsive indeed...that is...until he reloaded his copy of Norton 2005 and did a liveupdate. He reported the usual slowdown of his system.

I haven't tried them, but I've heard good things about the 2 "free" antivirus programs you can get online...AVG and AVAST.

If you have a 2005 or newer version of Norton, you might try just deleting it from your system to see if it even helps. If it does, you've found your culprit. If not, you can always reinstall it.

Good luck.

try running some spy ware program like spybot, also run the disk defragmenter in the start button then accessories and then system tools and see how it runs, good luck
