I have had a laptop since December of 2005, over that time period I've needed to send it to the manufacturer five times, and had it reformated six times (four times by them, twice by me). I will be buying a new hard drive for it in the very near future, so when answering my question, keep in mind it would be detrimental to buy something to stabilize it. Right now the machine takes a minimum of 15 minutes to start up, more often it takes a couple hours or more, also, when it finally does start up it loads a copy of McAfee antivirus, telling me to check for updates, blah, blah, blah. I haven't started this thing up in a couple months because of how messed up it is, so all that stuff is out of date, I don't use the Internet on it, and to be honest, I don't care if it gets a virus on it at this point. Well, after doing this it freezes, flashes a blue screen for about a second, and reboots, if it dosent crash right away, it will as soon as I try to run a program.. (more details coming soon)
What's an easy way to stabilize a computer?vista
Best thing I can come is your getting the blue screen of death. which is very very bad. Most of the time it is tempiture related.
Click start, go to run, type in msconfig go to the far right tab that says startup. turn off all unnecessary startup programs including mcaffree. Mcaffree itself is a virus as you can't get rid of it easily.
